Eucalyptus High K – Soluble Tree Fertiliser Scroll further down to read about Alg-a-Mic Seaweed
The first-part of your Eucalyptus Cocktail – a professional grade soluble plant fertiliser with the ideal nutrient make up for Eucalyptus trees.
Essential for happy container-grown Eucs in patio pots and also great for giving a boost to Eucs grown in the ground.
The special formulation allows the full range of nutrients to be available to the plant even in areas with hard water. Hard water can be problematic as it has a tendency to make iron and other trace elements, vital for correct plant metabolism, less accessible by ‘locking them up’ in insoluble compounds.
Eucalyptus High K is as safe and easy to use and store as any other soluble plant fertiliser.

At Hardy Eucalyptus, we have been using Eucalyptus High K in the nursery by the tonne and are very pleased with the results.
Why use this product as opposed to other readily available plant fertilisers?
Eucalyptus High K has the specific, correct formulation to keep Eucalyptus happy. Not too much Nitrogen, very low in Phosphorus, high in sensible Potassium.
The formulation: 13:10:28+2MgO+TE where the 13:10:28 refers to N:P:K: ratio. 2MgO is the level of Magnesium and TE stands for trace element.
Nitrogen ( N:13) is for shoots and leaves. Eucs love nitrogen, but like me and chocolate – we should only be allowed to consume it in small quantities. Nitrogen is like crack cocaine to a Eucalyptus. Over do the Nitrogen with a Euc and it becomes sick and falls over – literally. Nitrogen results in fast and furious growth, which is unsupported and sappy. The tree has no means of supporting this summer season growth until November (due to its complex biology) and so it falls over. This sappy growth also compromises winter hardiness, leaving your tree at risk of extreme frost damage. Eucalyptus only require a small amount of nitrogen to be happy.
Phosphorus (P:10) is for roots: Australia is a land of impoverished soils with very little phosphorus, so Eucs dont really know what to do with it! Put it this way, they are reputedly not keen on it.
High potassium (K*) (K:28) is traditionally known for flowers and fruits, but it also has many other functions to perform with in a plant. It is the first aid kit; in that it helps the plant to fight off diseases. Potassium also regulates osmosis (water-flow) throughout the plant; this is important under drought conditions where plants can suffer drought-stress. Furthermore, and especially in Eucalyptus, Potassium helps the tree ripen its tissues in readiness for winter. It is like a frost-proofer.
*K from the Latin Kalium – derived from the Arabic word al-qalyah (alkali), meaning plant ashes. In English, potash was manufactured from ashes in pots.
Magnesium is important as it is the at the centre of the Chlorophyll molecule – the green stuff in plants that converts sunlight into chemical energy, which in turn, helps to build plant material, amongst other things.
High K contains a good range of trace elements TE (think plant equivalent of vitamins) in a slow release format – see the next tab for a full list, but these elements such as Boron, Molybdenum etc. all have specific jobs to carry out with in a plant to keep it healthy and functioning correctly.
Packaging is completely compostable, including the ziplock. Please put it in your compost heap or green waste bin after use. Composition: “Eco Kraft paper”, bio-cellulose film, starch zip.
Eucalyptus High K is a multi-purpose product; you can use this plant food in Spring & Summer to feed your roses, Japanese maples, flowering and fruiting trees and shrubs, and even on lawns in the Autumn. Hardy Eucalyptus have successfully used Eucalyptus High K to feed a range of potted plants including Lemon trees, House plants, potted fruit trees and a range of perennials, with great results
Alg-a-Mic Cold-pressed Seaweed
The second part of the double act – Eucalyptus Cocktail
What is it?
The ultimate plant stress reliever and growth promoter. Alga-a-Mic is a pure organic seaweed extract full of natural plant growth hormones and precious micro-nutrients. Hand-crafted in small batches from on a special type of kelp Ascophyllum nodosum, by using a cold pressing technique. This means that all the goodness found in this kelp product is not destroyed by using other traditional production methods such as heat, chemical digestion or dehydration. Ascophyllum nodosum is a pretty unique seaweed being the only species in the genus Ascophyllum and growing only in the cold waters of the northern Atlantic Ocean.

Why use it?
- A foliar application of Alg A Mic coats the leaves with a soothing alginate (jelly-like substance). The polyamines in the kelp help to increase plant tolerance to abiotic stresses such as wind scorch and sun burn, whilst also helping the plant fight fungal and microbial attack (biotic stresses)
- Alg A Mic stimulates photosynthesis and chlorophyll production, helping the plant maintain lush foliage (the food factory of the plant) and therefore efficient food production for healthy growth.
- Alg A Mic promotes healthy roots leading to quicker plant establishment. This means higher yields and better quality; crucial if you are growing for cut foliage.
- The relationship between plant growth, soil microflora (beneficial fungi and bacteria) and the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum has been the subject of intensive study concluding that the seaweed is effective as a fertilizer, biostimulant and soil conditioner. When applied as a root drench on day 4 after planting your Euc with Rootgrow mycorrhizal fungi, the cytokinin in the seaweed extract helps the fungus colonize the tree roots, aiding faster establishment and a healthier tree.
- It can be used on all manner of horticultural crops. We have been advised that there isn’t a cabbage plant grown commercially in the UK that has not been treated with a seaweed spray at planting out!
A bit for the Plant Geeks: Alg A Mic contains all manner of biochemical goodies: amino acids, carbohydrates, phlorotannins, polyamines, and vitamins. In combination with each other, these natural active compounds impact upon plants in different ways according to the age of the plant and its condition. The plant growth hormones found in this kelp are cytokinins, gibberellins and auxins and they are absorbed through the foliage. Auxin is sent down to the roots where, along with phlorotannins, it helps build a healthy root system.

Top tip! Unlike your Eucs which love full sun, do keep your bottles of seaweed in the dark. Sunlight will turn the green juice to brown juice 😒
Useless fact: Seaweed has been used for human consumption, agriculture/horticulture and animal husbandry for 1000’s of years; the Romans used to feed it to their horses!
